Thank you to our VolunteersJune 9, 2017
A big thank you to all our volunteers in Volunteer Week.
“What would we do without all our volunteers?” is a refrain often heard in the office.
There are over 120 volunteers registered with MAECare and they are involved in all our activities.
Not everyone volunteers every week, but over the year volunteers contribute more than 4000 hours, the equivalent of another 3 paid staff members.
Volunteers get involved in a wide range of activities, these include helping in the office especially ringing people to remind them they are coming to an event and letting them know about transport.
A group of volunteers have offered one to one support to older people wanting to learn about iPads and tablets, this has been delivered in people’s homes or at the office.
An essential role is being an escort on the Access bus or on the minibus when going on an outing.
In a previous blog we mentioned our volunteer drivers and of course we mustn’t forget our befrienders and those who buddy up with someone to encourage them to come to activities or simply to leave the house.
Our volunteers are aged from 16 to 90 plus and all provide something unique to support older people.
Below are a few photos of volunteers in action
