Older people in the MediaOctober 27, 2017
Often representations of older people on TV or in newspapers can be very stereotyped and often can present older people as ‘heroes’ or as a burden.
Two recent portrayals caught my eye
One is a programme about centenarians which was shown on BBC Panorama.
There are about 14,500 centenarians in the UK predicted to double every ten years. One in every three babies born now is likely to live to be at least a 100. The programme follows 7 very different people.
Here’s a link to the programme. What do you think?

In complete contrast I came across this book and then film. Partly and exploration of loneliness and how one woman deals with it. I haven’t read the book, but the film starring Jane Fonda and Robert Redford is a very tender, sensitive and respectful portrayal of companionship and love in later life
